Greg Hope, who was born and raised in Blenheim, just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Waterlea Racecourse, was smiling back home at Woodend yesterday as stable new-comer Reklaw Supreme claimed victory in his hometown Cup.

"Greg & Nina were too busy at home to come along so they sent me with the horses," said stable junior driver Robbie Close.

"I only got told I was going a couple of hours before the truck left, so I didn't have long to pack my bags. But when you win three races out of six, including the feature, it makes it all worthwhile," he added.

The other two wins close speaks of were with Helena Jet (Jereme's Jet), who went back-to-back, posting emphatic wins on both Friday and Sunday.

"She is a bloody nice filly, and is only going to get better," said reinsman Ricky May who also did the driving on Reklaws Supreme.

Formerly trainer by Wayne Higgs and then briefly by Mike & Pat O'Brien, Reklaws Supreme had his first start for the Hope barn on Friday finishing a fast-finishing fifth, before sitting off a hot pace on Sunday and cruising on by for a 2 & ½ length victory over Stingray and a very game Little Miss Sunshine.

The Christian Cullen four-year-old brother to Reklaw's Boy and Reklaw's Chance is owned by his former trainer Wayne Higgs as well as M W Walker.
