Harness Racing Victoria yesterday was forced to amend the results of Race 6 at Mildura due to an error made by the officiating judge.

The Greg Fleming-trained Oils Jay Bee was originally declared the winner of the race from Hayabusa Flyer.

Following connections querying the result after the all clear was declared on the race, the photo was re-examined by the judge together with the stewards.

At that point it was confirmed by all parties that the Andrew Prothero-trained Hayabusa Flyer had in fact held on for victory by the narrowest margin.

Stewards in accordance with the rules of harness racing had no choice but to amend the placings on the race.

The judge explained that a shadow on the print may have contributed to the difficulties in reaching the original decision. Ultimately the judge concluded he had made an error.

Such an error is a very rare occurrence and despite already having the finishing line surveyed in the last 12 months, along with an upgrade of equipment, there are further plans to mitigate any further risks.

State of the art digital technology to the value of $35,000 will be installed permanently at the track through the HRV Development Fund with training of the Mildura judges to proceed thereafter.
