NZB Standardbred has announced a revised schedule for their National Standardbred Yearling Sale held in Auckland and Christchurch from Saturday 13 to Wednesday 17 February 2021.
The refreshed schedule will allow international buyers to actively participate at a local time that is beneficial for them, and accommodate the bumper catalogue of entries received.
“Our main focus is to ensure that our schedule fits in with our international buying bench and provide them with the optimum time to purchase,” said NZB Director and Operations Manager James Jennings.
“Our domestic buying bench will also be just as important as ever and we will be working with them in the preceding months to ensure they are able to inspect as many horses as possible.”
“We believe a number of them will be called upon by their Australian counterparts to act on their behalf.”
“We have been extremely pleased by the support we have received from vendors and owners with the catalogue this year and look forward to hosting another successful Sale in January,” Jennings said.
NZB Standardbred has taken into account the unlikely prospects of the borders opening in the first half of next year.
“While both New Zealand and Australia are working hard to get on top of COVID-19, the landscape has changed significantly in the last six months,” said NZB Standardbred’s Cam Bray.
“Although it is everyone’s hope that trans-Tasman travel becomes a reality, we have to plan for the situation to remain unchanged,” he said.
Parent company New Zealand Bloodstock’s recent announcement regarding the build of their new online bidding platform, adapted from their proven online auction subsidiary gavelhouse.com, describes the access buyers will have to a real-time stream of the sale broadcast and ability to bid with ease from laptops, tablets or mobile phone devices.
“The market is now much more receptive to online bidding as the results of the All Age Sale attested,” Jennings said.
“Technology will play a large role in the Sale next year and we are looking forwarded to the completion of our online bidding system which will be thoroughly tested in operation at preceding sales.”
“We will have of course the advantage of having all of our domestic buying bench at the sales, so it is another level up from an online sale.”
NZB Standardbred’s National Yearling Sale revised the sales format as follows:
