Methven reinsman Ricky May started the night's (Friday July 27) racing at Addington in Christchurch needing two wins to reach the 100 win milestone for the 2011-2012 harness racing season. He achieved the ton in the ninth of the 10 races carded.

After a luckless third on the Michael House trained Sol Invictus in the opening trot, May took luck out of the equation by sending the Brendon Hill trained mare Dakota Grace to the front from the get go, for an all the way victory to bring his tally up to 99 wins for the season.

May then finished a close second in race six, with the highly talented three year old Beach Bunny, who was beaten a half head by another very exciting three year old in the Cran Dalgety trained Christen Me, who made it four wins on end and will subsequently head to the paddock for a freshener before returning for the cup carnival.

May just missed saluting with Live The Dream in the main trot before he finally landed his 100th win for the season, in the Sicon Ltd Contracting claimers final with Ultimate Player, once again in the colours of Brendon Hill.

After having a bit of a look out of the gate from his wide draw, May then restrained the son of Dream Away and gained a one out one back position behind Franco Nartiscape.

Ultimate player then proved to strong for his opposition in the straight with Eastwood Pharaoh finishing a game second, and the well supported and early leader Niraadi fading back to fourth.

"It was great to get my 100th for the season for Brendon and the Famularo's as they are such big supporters of mine," May said following the race.

May also thanked Greg and Nina Hope for providing him with a large number of his wins this season.

It was the third time Ricky May has driven 100 winners in a season. Ricky first achieved this milestone in 1993, where he became the first South Island driver to do so.

"That's one record Dexter wont be able to take away from me" May quipped.

Following the event Ultimate Player was claimed by Invercargill trainer Murray Swain.
