Wingara and Nathan Jack win the 2015 Vicbred Semi-Final

“They’ll know he’s in the race,” said Chiltern harness racing trainer Peter Romero of his stable star Wingara, who heads into next Saturday night’s three-year-old colts and geldings Empire Stallions Vicbred Super Series Final in winning form.

Wingara was a brilliant semi-final winner tonight at Tabcorp Park Melton, rating 1:57.3 with Nathan Jack in the cart over 2240m.

The son of American sire Dawn Ofa New Day out of Bobydeane finished 6.5 metres ahead of The Culture (Matthew Craven) after working to the front early from gate six before reeling off splits of 31.9secs, 29.3secs, 27.7secs and 27.9secs.

Polemarker Justbritell, who has had a cracking season, ran third, while Mister Wickham worked hard in the run but held on well for fourth.

"He's done a good job. He's a professional and he's got gate speed, as Nathan said," Romero said.

"The barrier draw will be important."

New Zealand star Follow The Stars was impressive winning the other three-year-old boys’ semi for superstar trainer Mark Purdon, defeating New South Wales Derby winner Menin Gate and Victoria Derby hero Menin Gate in one of the strongest Futurity semis you’ll ever see.

Follow The Stars’ mile rate was 1:56.2, out-sprinting his rivals in the straight.
