Mystic Maiden tasted defeated on Friday night for the first time in eight months. The talented B.C. import finished a surprising seventh in the $30,000 Western Filly Pace elimination heat on the opening night on the Northlands Park harness racing meet in Edmonton.
River Lass - Alberta' top three-year-old filly - stole the show, winning her sixth straight for owners Blair Corbeil and Kelly Hoerdt. Mystic Maiden had won 12 straight entering tonight's tilt.
"She's the real deal," said Corbeil on his Alberta-bred pacer. "The competition is a lot tougher here."
