CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Saving ground at every point in the mile Rockin Indy powered up in the final strides to upset the apple cart in the Saturday afternoon feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The win was part of a driving triple for Cornwall driver Corey MacPherson, who sat behind the post 1 starting Rockin Indy for owner-trainer Troy Murray of Clyde River. Pillage And Burn (Driven by Ken Murphy) found the lead in the $2,600 feature while Rockin Indy sat on his back through splits of 29.2, 59.1 and 1:28.2 over a wet track listed two-seconds off.
Rockin Indy, at odds of 7-1, bailed from his garden ride in the final stanza go by that pacesetter to prevail by a nose in 1:58.2 over the heavily favoured Pillage And Burn with Revenant (Adam Merner) finishing third.
MacPherson also visited the winner's circle with Whim Road Gem in 2:02.1 from the Mike McGuigan barn and Fern Hill Dynamic in 1:59.2 for the first lifetime training win for conditioner Tessa MacKinnon of Souris.
The $2,300 trotting feature was the second part of a Gilles Barrieau hat trick as he guided his own Cheeky Little Minx to a first-over win in 2:00.4. Barrieau hit the wire first in race 6 with newcomer Fluentocity for a 1:59 win for trainer Blaine Baglole and in race 9 aboard IC True Grit for trainer Chad Taylor.
The Eddie Power Memorial pace in race 4 saw a 20-1 upset with Windsun Rebel rewarding his backers in 1:59.1. Mark Bradley was in the bike for trainer Vaughan Doyle of Charlottetown.
