Star trotter Rocknroll Baby (Rock N Roll Heaven) continued an amazing cups collection spree with a brilliant harness racing victory in the SA Square Trotters Association Kadina Trotters Cup (1609m).
The victory was the mare’s sixth cups win this season.
Rocknroll Baby’s run began with the Gramel Cup at Globe Derby Park on January 6, then came a string of four in a row with the Gawler, Mount Gambier, Kapunda and Port Pirie cups on February 10, March 3, 11 and 24 before adding the Kadina Cup on Friday.
That record should ensure Rocknroll Baby is already a strong favourite for the 2017-2018 Horse Of The Year title as historians delve into the records to see if any horse has been able to land so many cups in a season.
It was an amazing betting race on Friday.
Rocknroll Baby, after opening at $2 firmed into $1.60, then only minutes before the start, Truscott Law, which had eased from $2.50 out to $4 was suddenly smashed firming into $2.20 favourite while the mare drifted out to $2.50.
Truscott Law, which came from gate five, had to be driven hard early by Danielle Hill before finding the lead after 400 metres with a first quarter of 27.4 and backed off the tempo for a 31.8 second, second quarter.
At this time, Rocknroll Baby, which had settled back in the field in the running line was brought forward by Jock Dunlop to apply pressure and make the cup a truly run event.
The favourites drew clear of the field down the back with a 28.9 second third quarter. Rocknroll Baby started to gain an advantage over Truscott Law and suddenly ducked in causing the latter to gallop and leaving her well clear of the rest of the field.
Dunlop gave Rocknroll Baby an easy time up the home straight and she cruised home 14 metres clear of Light The Flame ($8.90) with Drinktous Wroxton ($39.20), a half metre away third.
Rocknroll Baby is trained at Two Wells by Greg Norman for owners AB&T Cormack Racing, comprising Adam, Ben and Terry Cormack.
Rocknroll Baby now heads to Tabcorp Park Menangle in May for a four and five-year-old trotters series which has a $30,000 final on May 26.
Norman said the Breeders Crown in Victoria would be the mare’s final goal this season.
