Ron Short's Charger ($30.20) was a long-shot harness racing winner of the $20,000 featured Open Pace at Harrington Raceway Monday (October 1) in 1:52.1 and was one of seven driving winners for Tony Morgan. Trained by Short, Charger, the 7-year-old put forth a strong surge late to get by stretch leader Windfall Blue Chip for a narrow win in a tight photo finish.
Windfall Blue Chip was second while Sunshine Superman closed late for third.
It was the first Open level win at Harrington for the son of Stampede Hanover, whose been a heavy hitter in the high conditioned classes over the past few years. He earned his 5th win of the season and 28th lifetime.
Morgan had four winners going into the 13th race, but then won the last three with CR Artistic ($5), Sign of Thunder ($3), and McCabe Hall ($5.80).
Morgan is currently Harrington’s third leading driver behind Ross Wolfenden and George Dennis.
