Roxane Griff, with Eric Raffin aboard, won today’s Gr. III International Monte Prix Guillaume de Bellaigue at Paris-Vincennes.
She traveled the 2700 meter classic grand piste in 1.13.5kr to score by three open lengths.
Away alertly, the nine year-old daughter of Tenor de Baune-Julia Mesloise-Sancho Panca tucked in the pocket and played the waiting game.
Her rivals tried a boxing tactic and it appeared to be working until top of the stretch when an outside rival went offstride.
Raffin quickly used the opening to attack the leaders and although Roxane drifted wide she went past easily to the delight of Raffin, the mare’s connections and fans that braved heavy rains this day in Paris. Roxane Griff now has earnings in excess of €2.3 million with 19 victories. Sebastian Guarato trains the winner for Ecurie Griff.
Consistent Quarry Bay, a 10 year-old daughter of Cygnus d’Odyssee, and a winner of over €1.1 million, was second of Camille Levesque and her father as owner Ecurie Pierre Levesque. Mike Lenders trains this one.
