The great French mare Roxane Griff controlled the field and the pace, drawing clear for an easy seven length win in today's "classique" Prix de L'lle-de-France at Paris-Vincennes before a large and enthusiastic crowd on a clear, sunny day.
The Gr. I International UET Masters Series event drew eight starters for a purse of 200,000e contested over 2175 meters.
Roxane Griff was competing in her third Gr. I race in as many weeks as she took the January 19 Prix de Cornulier, then finished fourth in the Prix d'Amerique on January 26. She was timed in 1.11.6kr with a sharp final 500 meters Roxane and jockeydrew clear albeit she drifted wide down the lane.
Quarry Bay, another great mare, in rein to Camille Levesque, was second after making a fine run from a trailing position. Quarry Bay was no match for the winner but increased her career earnings to 1,058,020â‚¬ for trainerand owner Ecurie .
Race record was set in 2011 by that years' victor Piscou de Villabon timed in 1.10.9kr. The race began in 1980 and was won last year by Singalo, Priscilla Blue in 2010 and Revenue in 2003.
