Harness racing New South Wales stewards today (Monday September 26) inquired into a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory that the pre race blood sample taken from Mighty Federer, when that horse competed in Race 6, at Menangle on 13 September 2010 showed Total Plasma Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) in excess of the allowable threshold.
Evidence today was taken from Mr Roy Roots the trainer of Mighty Federer.
Written evidence was provided by Dr Craig Suann, Senior Veterinarian assisting the ARFL.
Mr Roots pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 190(1)(2) & (4), in that as the Trainer of Might Federer on the above mentioned date, he presented that horse to race and a pre race blood sample taken from it was found upon analysis, to show TCO2 in excess of the allowable threshold.
In assessing the appropriate penalty, Stewards took into consideration the forthright evidence of Mr Roots, his overall record in the Harness Racing Industry over a period in excess of 30 years
Mr Roots was suspended for a period of 10 months.
Acting under Rule 195, Mighty Federer was disqualified form the above mentioned race and the placings amended to:
1st Bo Sparta, 2nd Rosewood Dan, 3rd Wilcos Thunder, 4th Touch In Time.
