Clic K did all the road work in Monday’s $10,000 Preferred 2 at The Raceway at Western Fair District, but Royal Outlook got the lion’s share of the loot thanks in large part to a beautiful trip.
Alfie Carroll carved out a two-hole ride for Royal Outlook while Clic K supplied the field with fractions of :28.4, :59.3 and 1:30.2 over a track rated ‘good’ with a four-second allowance. Carroll shot up the rail and used a :29.3 closing panel to win by a head over Clic K in 2:00.2. Third prize was earned by Hoboken Hanover.
Tom Hamm trains Royal Outlook, who was recently named the track’s Older Pacing Horse of the Year for 2013, for owner Dave Hudson of Dallas, Texas. The six-year-old son of Royal Mattjesty is a 24-time winner with lifetime earnings in excess of $275,000. He’s scheduled to sell as Hip 248 in next Monday’s 2014 January Select Mixed Sale at The Meadowlands.
Art Professor blew away the foes he faced in the $6,500 Preferred 3. Tony Kerwood came first-over with the Ben Wallace pupil who drew clear to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Thats The Life in 2:00.3. Western Captive rounded out the top three finishers.
Art Professor, who is owned by Brad Grant of Milton, Ontario, won for the 19th time in his career while pushing his lifetime earnings to $584,624. The seven-year-old son of Art Major-Allamerican Toffee is schedule to sell as Hip 221 in the 2014 January Select Mixed Sale at The Meadowlands.
Savthelstdancforme pulled off a 25-1 stunner in the $6,500 Preferred 3 for trotters. Dennis Duford treated the Ashley Duford trainee to a two-hole trip, and the eight-year-old son of Striking Sahbra-Iam Worthy Too turned it into a 2:03.1 triumph. Winkys Pride was second best, with Fiery Manes finishing third.
It was the first win of the season in two tries for Savthelstdancforme, who is quickly closing in on $120,000 in lifetime earnings.
