Overlooked in the wagering, Gary Hafner’s Fox Valley Charmer took the lead immediately and never looked back in Monday’s first Leg 2 of the Silhouette Star Series for 2-year-old Fillies conceived and Foaled in the state of Illinois.
Pegged at 8-1 in the morning line, Fox Valley Charmer went off at a very generous $13.20-1 and made every pole a winning one. Driven by Andy Miller, the first of his three driving victories of the night, this filly was trained by Don Freese.
Of course Fox Valley Charmer was helped immensely by the fact that favored Brookview Clever, second choice Victors Vicky, and fourth choice Rockome Vicky all broke stride at the start, and that third choice R One Hot Mama broke stride at the three-quarters.
Fox Valley Charmer was able to set easy fractions of :31.4, 1:02.3, and 1:33.2 on her way to a mile in 2:02.3. She paid $28.40 and won by a length and a quarter. Peaceful Victory, who had chased Fox Valley Charmer all the way around, held on for second place.
In the second Leg 2 of the Silhouette Star, Vandalay Racing’s Victor’s Finesse, also driven by Andy Miller, made a great late move to overtake favored Go Go Gabby and win drawing away. This filly, trained by Erv Miller, covered the mile in 2:02.4, after fractions of :30.0, 1:02.3, and 1:34.2 but she got the last quarter in a very healthy :27.4. Go Go Gabby did hang on for second.
Victor’s Finesse paid $24.80 for the victory.
These fillies are set to square off again in Leg 3 of this Series on July 24 with the Final, worth an estimated $100,000, set for August 5th.
