Statistics don’t lie however sometimes they don’t tell the whole picture. For example take a look at the 2005 past performance stats on Friday night’s ninth feature at Maywood Park favorite Costly Cadet.
They show a very successful campaign that saw the Michigan bred pacer win 12 of 32 starts, with 6 seconds and 6 thirds. That’s a very solid 37.5 winning percentage. However, last year’s performances look even more impressive when you consider only Costly Cadet’s Maywood Park outings. In 24 starts here he won 10 times, an even better 41.2 per cent victory clip.
If you break down those statistics to include only his last 11 Maywood Park starts for the Seldon Ledford Stable, they became ever more stunning. Costly Cadet captured eight of those 11 races here, a pretty amazing 72.7 winning clip.
When you take in account Costly Cadet’s spectacular late season Maywood Park campaign with Friday night’s one-post that produced a very strong 22 per cent of our winners in ‘05 it’s not surprising the now 10-year-old gelding will open as the 9-5 early favorite when he takes on seven rivals including Do Yo Yahoo, who beat Costly Cadet in the December 30 season ending meeting.
Do You Yahoo (7-2, Tony Morgan) have post four. Post two and three belong to Fox Valley Whiz (Tim Tetrick, 10-1) and My Casanova (Dave Magee, 20-1), respectively. From five through eight the challengers are Apache Hotspur (Dale Hiteman, 6-1), Crazy Art (Brent Holland, 9-2), General Challenge (Ryan Anderson, 5-1) and Bar Ron Boy A (Sam Widger, 20-1), in that order
