Balmoral Park will host Super Night 2005 next Saturday night (September 17).
Inaugurated at old Sportsman’s Park in 1989, Super Night during the last 16 years has become the biggest and most important evening of harness racing in Illinois.
When now defunct Sportsman’s Park shut their doors on the Illinois Standardbred industry after 50-plus glorious harness racing seasons, Balmoral Park took over in 1998 as the permanent site of the annual parade of champions where it has flourished, producing records both on and off the racetrack.
Elimination races were held last Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at the south suburban facility for the eight six-figure championships to be decided on Super Night 2005.
Hall of Fame driver Dave Magee far and away has been “The Man” at the Illinois annual parade of stars.
The Green Bay, Wisconsin native has racked up 22 Super Night driving championships, 10 more than Joe Anderson’s second place total of 12. However, “Little Joe” is atop the Super Night trainer standings race with 13 championships winners. Mark Fransen is next in the Super Night trainer’s race with nine, followed by Erv Miller with seven.
On Saturday, there are two Super Night parties available, the Budweiser First Turn Party, and Tony Maurello’s Annual Super Night Stars Gala.
Tickets are still obtainable and they can be ordered online at www.balmoralpark.com.
Both parties feature All-You-Can-Eat Buffets, with live music and a special Super Night Souvenir T-Shirt. You can also call 708-672-1414 for more details.
