Harness racing driver Corey Braden made his presence felt Sunday afternoon in his first appearance at the 2012 Colonial Downs fall meet. The 42 year old brought home three winners including a perfectly timed drive aboard Manley Brown's Salazaar in the $5,000 feature.
Salazar entered Sunday’s pacing event fresh off a dominant six-plus length win here on September 6th in 1:51 2/5, but that victory came against easier company. The 6 year oldgelding came outside at the three-eighths marker Sunday but could not get past front stepping Queen of the Stars.
Salazar unsuccessfully tried the outside route again through the turn but settled back into the pocket at the head of the stretch.
Queen of the Stars opened up a two length cushion in mid-stretch but Braden timed Salazar’s final move perfectly. He came outside again deep in the stretch just in time to earn a half length triumph in 1:51 3/5. The win also gave leading trainer Brown a three bagger.
Braden, who also scored wins aboard Super Chuck and Twenty Six Karma, joined reinsman Keith Cash Jr. in getting triples on the program. Cash, competing in his second year at Colonial, connected with Tidbit, Shanghai Jack and Jazzy Hanover.
Colonial Downs is dark Monday and Tuesday. The fall season continues Wednesday with a ten race card at 1 PM.
