TWO HORSE RACEOFF COMING UP!
Before a huge crowd at Aby, the classy veterans took center stage in the first two heats of the prestigious Aby Stora Pris.
A speed battle took place in the first heat as pacesetter Commander Crowe (10g Juliana Star-Somack-Mack Lobell), with Orjan Kihlstrom aboard for trainer Fabrice Souloy, parked The Best Madrik in blistering fractions.
The first split was 1.06.3kr as the Commander eventually stuffed his adversary in the third position and slowed the pace modestly to a 1.09.1kr second timing after which the French invader Save The Quick (7f Jasmin de Flore-Houreuse Duchesse-Blue Dream) ranged up for Bjorn Goop.
The Franck Leblanc trainee just prevailed on the line in 1.10.3kr over the game Commander Crowe with Classic Grand Cru (10m Supergill-Starlets Victory-Valley Victory) a late closing third for Johnny Taker. Nahar made a costly break and Sebastian K showed little in heat one finishing fourth, the latter with Jorma Kontio aboard for suspended Ake Svanstedt.
The winner scored for the 12th time lifetime in 64 starts, good for 13 million SEK. Commander Crowe showed a 91 55-13-6 slate for approximately 30 million SEK after this heat.
Heat two had six entrants face the starter with Nahar and The Best Madrik scratched. With positions reversed from heat one, Sebastian K (7m Korean-Gabriella K-Probe) easily made the lead for Kontio and set comfortable fractions.
Commander Crowe settled sixth and then came first up before the half with Save The Quick following. Commander Crowe steadily advanced for Kihlstrom but could not collar Sebastian K with Save The Quick flying late with Goop to be third. Time was 1.12.7kr and a two horse race-off is next with Sebastian K drawing the inside.
