Sceicco wins Biasuzzi Memorial at Treviso, Italy

The 165,000 euro Gran Criterium Biasuzzi Memorial today at Treviso, Italy went to Sceicco (2m Look de Star-Iuta-Viking Kronos) reined by Andrea Guzzinati.

He scored over the 1609 meter (one mile) distance in 1.13.5kr. The victory was his second in nine juvenile starts with five other placings for the son of French sire Look de Star, he by Coktail Jet. Sugar Rey and Spinello Jet followed the winner home. Scuderia Louisiana SRL owns Sceicco.

The companion Gran Criterium Filly (1609 meters, 66,000 euro) went to Sharon Gar (2f Varenne-Geneve Gar-Lemon Dra) for Franceso Virzi. She scored in 1.14kr to defeat Sweat OK and Saba del Ronco for her third win in 11 starts with six more placings.

Allevemento Garigliano SRL owns the winner. Her dam is a daughter of Happy Diamonds (Diamond Exchange-Sharon's Streak), exported from the US in 1987 after winning $316,843 with 10 wins in 32 starts and a record of 3, 1:55.1 in 1990 at DuQuoin. Sharon's Streak (Sirloin-Speedy Flora-Speedy Scot), along with Happy Diamonds, were bred by Sharon K. Sylvester.

Sharon's Streak won 15 of 70 starts for $69,483 and her dam, Speedy Flora (Speedy Scot-Florescent-Florican-Dotty Darnley) was bred by an Ohio small breeder legend George Alber of Marion. Dotty Darnley produced Dotty Diller, a 1966 Diller Hanover filly foal that earned over $138,000; Go Power a 1971 foal and winner of $32,870 for Benny White; and Dotty Coaltown, a 1972 filly foal that earned $48,809. This maternal family was highly productive as Dotty Diller's fillies Noble Gant, Sport Liz, the great Lady Bonefish and Grant's Memory combined earned over $484,000 and were largely bred and managed by the late Pat Menchi.
