It may not have been as easy as the $1.30 punters were hoping, but all is well that ends well and that was the case for the McCarthy team when Ideal Scott held off the late challengers in thefinal for four-year-old entires and geldings.
Brilliantly away from the mobile, quickly found the pegs and held the front from start to finish in a 55.2 last half.
Besotted was at the head of the chasers and despite having to sit parked he rallied late to only go down by a head with Keayang Steamer, from behind the leader, less than three metres away in third.
Ideal Scott has now made it four wins straight since coming to the McCarthy’s NSW stables and he looks set to make the leap to the Grand Circuit next season.
Luke McCarthy spoke to Rob Auber on the track after the race and he was quick to heap praise on both of the horses who ran the quinella.
“We had to burn a little off the gate but I think the draw was the difference, Besotted was a great running sitting parked in the headwind but luckily enough we were good enough to hold him off,” McCarthy said.
“I don’t know if we could have sat outside Besotted and do the work he had to and beat him so we were just thankful the draws went our way today.
“He’s a Great Northern Derby winner and he won the Group 1 in Queensland so hopefully he can take that step onto the Grand Circuit.”
Ideal Scott rated 1:55.7 for the mile in what was career win number 12.
