The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale held its second session on Wednesday evening (Oct. 3), as 154 harness racing youngsters passed through the sales ring, for a total of $7,547,000. The average price of $49,006 marks an improvement of 9.6 percent over the average in the second session last year. Through two sessions, the sale is boasting a gain in average price of 7.7 percent.

First crop sire Muscle Hill, who produced both the sale topper and the highest average in Tuesday’s opening session, continued his mastery. The sale topper at $300,000 on Wednesday was his son Southwind Chronicl, the first foal out of Caerphilly, a sister to six winners of at least $100,000. Preferred Equine Marketing, Inc served as agent for the breeder Southwind Farms. Buyer William Augustine, one of the owners of this year’s Hambletonian winner Market Share, is hoping to return to that winner’s circle with this colt in 2014.

Somebeachsomewhere, off to a sensational start with his first crop to the races this year, sired the sale session’s runner-up. The colt Andaman Hanover is the first foal from Anadarko Hanover, a daughter of Artaffection and sister to a pair of winners of more than $250,000. Hanover Shoe Farms raised and consigned this youngster. The bidding was brief, as Myron Bell cast the sole bid, an intimidating $200,000.

Here are the top priced horses and averages.
