Col Kennedy passed away on November 4 but his harness racing legacy lived on at Alexandra Park today (Tuesday November 23) when the 4-year-old gelding he and his wife Karen bred and owned, won a $4,000 one-win pace at the Kumeu Trotting Club's meeting.

Shardon's Magic was a $3.70 favourite in the eight-horse field. He and had a neck and 1-1/4 lengths to spare over Rain Forest (Tony Grayling) and Curlys Cousin (Peter Ferguson).

The Richard Brosnan trained bay paced the 2200m mobile in 2:46.2 (mile rate: 2:01.6) with final 800m and 400m sprints of 60.1 and 28.9.

It was the son of Presidential Ball's second win in eight starts and he has now won just over $7,000 in stakes. It was also his second win on the track and over the distance.

Shardon's Magic also recorded his first victory at a Kumeu Tuesday meeting back on May 14 this year. He went 2:45.6 that day.

Seventy two year-old Kennedy had a private funeral at his Glenbrook home on November 10.
