Shelliscape, despite rainy conditions and sloppy track, was able to grind out the biggest victory of her career with a head triumph in the $300,000 Breeders Crown Final for pacing mares Saturday at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

Right from the start racing fans knew this would be a classic race as Feeling You and driver Tyler Buter shot out to the early lead on the off track with Money On My Wheel (Brian Sears) sitting on their backs. But before the opening quarter mile in a speedy :26.3, Anndrovette (Tim Tetrick), who had won the Breeders Crown the last two years, came charging on the outside and took command of the race.

Going to the half mile, Anndrovette was in command in :54.1 as Rocklamation (Yannick Gingras) came first-over with Shelliscape following their outside live cover. Racing down the backstretch, Rocklamation was not only able to collar Anndrovette but cleared to take the lead before the three-quarters in 1:21.2.

But Shelliscape was not to be denied as Miller kept his filly going on the outside and worn down Rocklamation at the wire to win in a photo finish. Anndrovette was third.

“She’s all guts isn’t she,” Dave Miller said. “My cover cleared going into the last turn. She stepped up real strong and she was gusty right to the wire. I was not for sure if we won but she was still going. I did not know if she would run out of racetrack. She put her head in front at the end.”

A four-year-old mare by Artiscape, Shelliscape is trained by PJ Fraley and is owned by the Bamond Racing Stable of Brick, NJ. It was the fourth victory this year for Shelliscape. She paid $10.20 to win.
