CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – On top at every call there was no stopping Simple Kinda Man's advance to the winner's circle as the post time harness racing favourite in Saturday night's $3,000 preferred pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
It was one of three wins for reinsman Jason Hughes, as he cruised the five-year-old son of Sportswriter to the front from post 5 in the main event and laid down splits of 27.4, 57.2 and 1:26.3. The Chris MacKay trained pacer fended off a late advance from eventual second place finisher Freddy Bear (Driven by Marc Campbell) in 1:54.3 with JJ Powerball (Gilles Barrieau) rallying for third. D Racing Stable of Middletown, N.Y., holds the ownership papers of the Gold Cup and Saucer finalist with Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge.
Hughes' other victories came with Tempo Seelster stopping the clock in 1:56.1 from the Gary Poulton Stable of Charlottetown and in the second straight win for Persist Blue Chip, this time in 1:57.1 for Saul Lanigan of Montague.
Cowboy Logic continued his domination in race 10 of the program in 1:57.1 for his fifth straight win with Steven Shepherd at the lines for trainer and co-owner Harold Shepherd and Island co-owners Angus Birt, Maurice McCabe and Gerard Ellsworth.
Trainer Tom Weatherbie had a double from his Charlottetown outfit as Jenna Grace (Mark Bradley) scored a maiden breaking win in 2:01.4 and Temagami Seelster (Kenny Arsenault) remained undefeated on P.E.I. with a 1:56.4 clocking.
Total wager was $40,193. Go to Redshores.ca for race replays and more.
