Mah Sish - Is primed and ready for Saturday's feature

“We want to come out of the gate and anything that wants to cross us is going to have to burn early.” That's the warning shot from champion New Zealand harness racing trainer Tim Butt to his rivals in the ID13 showdown this Sunday at Menangle.

When speaking on RSN breakfast yesterday morning, the Kiwi-trainer who has had unlimited success in Australia in the past decade has thrown a spanner in the works for many connections.

The question still remains as to whether he has enough early speed to hold out the initial challenges expected from Caribbean Blaster, Chariot King and Lincoln Royal.

However, the planned tactics from the camp could prove a masterstroke given what he endured in the Del-Re Hunter Cup, and the way he responded to the pressure.

Butt believes that although they don't have many options, doing work early won't necessarily be detrimental. "He is such a great stayer and he led all the way in the Hunter Cup, they took him on there and he finished it off, I guess from the one our hand is forced a little bit," he said.

"At Menangle you want to be handy so there is always going to be a bit of pressure early but I think they underestimate Mah Sish's gate speed. They might just be a little bit surprised about how quick he can get out."

The son of Mach Three drifted from $5.50 to $7.50 with TAB fixed odds after drawing the cherry however that was on the back of commentary that he would likely end up three-back on the pegs early in the race.
