Dover, DE — Jack Vernon avoided his previous harness racing breaking issues with a wire-to-wire victory in the $25,000 Open Trot at Dover Downs on Tuesday night (Jan. 14).
Trainer Dylan Davis called upon the services of Tim Tetrick, and both trotter and driver responded over a sloppy racetrack.
Jack Vernon allowed Home’n Dry to take the lead briefly before retaking the lead at the end of a :27.4 quarter. Tetrick was able to back off the half to :57.2 before facing a first-over challenge from In Secret through three-quarters in 1:25.2. Jack Vernon prevailed as the 1-2 favorite, winning handily by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.2.
Home’n Dry stayed on the rail to finish second; Majestic Marvel finished third.
Coming up Thursday at Dover Downs, Wiggle It Jiggleit will take on Slick Tony once again in the 12th race Preferred Trot. First race post time is 4:30 pm.
