Pukekohe trainers Steven Reid and Simon McMullan were on the ball when nominating their talented 4yo gelding Franco Nikau for races at Addington over the next two months.
In making the trip south Franco Nikau, in the hands of leading north island driver Peter Ferguson, made it three starts for three wins at Addington last Friday night defeating a tidy field of one win pacers. He now looks a strong chance to make it four wins on end in backing up this Friday night when he will be chasing the thick end of a healthy $21,000 stake on offer, by way of the new Seasonal Super Series of races being staged at Addington.
He will compete in the non-win as at 31 August Final raced behind the mobile over 2600m. Accompanying this will be two further Super Series Finals, one for one to two win pacers at 31 August and one for up to two win trotters at 31 August both for stakes of $21,000. There will be consolations for all three finals for a stake of $12,500 each.
Not only will Franco Nikau be competing for $21,000, but in having his second start at Addington this Friday is now eligible for the Glenys & Philip Kennard Graphite Developments Show Day Futurity on Friday 15 November for a stake of $36,000.
So after assessing the opportunities and mapping out their programme, the next month or so could well prove very profitable for the Reid - McMullan team and the owners of Franco Nikau.
It is the intention of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club that another Seasonal Super Series will take place on Friday 20 December under similar conditions.
