This Sundays (August 17th) at the Rangiora meeting marks the arrival on the harness racing landscape in Canterbury of the very smart trial winner, Parramatta.

The 4 year old entire by McArdle has been very impressive at trials and workouts to date and will be a warm favourite with punters on debut.

Parramatta qualified at Rangiora for Nigel McGrath in the middle of July with a very smart performance that had first up winner written all over it.

Over 2000 meters from the mobile, Parramatta gave nothing else a chance on a brisk winters day, running 2:31.2, a mile rate of 2:01.6 with closing sectionals of 57.4 and 27.7 as he cleared out for a 8 length win.

Parramatta changed hands after that trial win and will line up on Sunday from the barn of Terry and Glenys Chimel with Terry doing the driving.

A quick look at the breeding of Parramatta explains where the ability comes from.

The dam of Parramatta is the smart racemare Sheng Li ($44,735) and he is her first foal.

Sheng Li is a half sister to Uncle Wingnut 1:55.2 ($151,981)

The grand dam Paula's Way is a half sister to Paula's Mate 1:57.1 ($231,310) and Paula Michele 1:58.3 ($206,228)

Another half sister to Paula's Way is Delighful Paula who has left Whambam 1:54.5 ($580,226)  Delightful Christian 1:52.1 ($368,751) and Tosti Girl 1:58.2 ($196,761)

Aristocratic 2:00.8, the third dam of Parramatta is a full sister to Class Act, the dam of the brilliant Classical 1:57.7 ($294,196)

This is one of the hottest commercial families in the New Zealand stud book and Parramatta should add to that legacy on Sunday.
