Smoken Up
Smoken Up - won't be a starter in the 2012 New Zealand Cup.

Australasia's fastest pacer, Smoken Up has arrived in Perth for the 2012 V75 Inter Dominion at Gloucester Park, which begins on Friday week - 17th February. The $2.9 million harness racing earner jetted into Western Australia with fellow Inter Dominion contender, Hesa Buzzin at around 5.30am (WAST).

Smoken Up capped off his preparation with a devastating win at Tabcorp Park Melton last Saturday night, rating a sensational 1.51.1 for the mile over the 1720 metre trip, smashing the track record. Trainer Lance Justice will fly into Perth next week after seeing doctors about his ankle which was shattered in a horrific race fall last December.

Justice's brother John, who won the 2000 Inter Dominion at Moonee Valley with Shakamaker, is favoured to take the coveted drive on Smoken Up, after piloting the dual Miracle Mile champion in Saturday night's record breaking win.

"We'll make a decision this week, but John got a feel of what Smoken Up can really do on Saturday night, which is a big advantage" said Smoken Up's part owner Peter Gadsby.

"Lance is still hopeful he will be fit to drive in the Final on 2nd March," added Gadsby.

The Ian Wilson trained Hesa Buzzin, a winner of 21 races, also arrived in Perth accompanied by stable foreman and regular race driver Jimmy Douglass. Douglass is fresh from piloting stablemate Scandalman to victory last Saturday night in the Group One Victoria Derby.

In other V75 Inter Dominion news, connections of Auckland Reactor will make a decision today on whether their star pacer will compete in the V75 Inter Dominion at Gloucester Park.

The son of Mach Three was a gallant second in the AG Hunter Cup at Melton on Saturday night, going down by the barest possible margin in the AG Hunter Cup to fellow kiwi, Choise Achiever.

If Auckland Reactor does continue along the Inter Dominion path, the man who drove Choise Achiever to victory, Anthony Butt has been booked to drive Auckland Reactor in the $1.78 Million series.

The fields for the first round of V75 Inter Dominion Heats will be release by Racing and Wagering WA at 12noon next Monday 13th February.
