Tonights harness racing meeting at Addington was a bit of a low key affair but there was still plenty of classy horses involved.
The Steve Telfer and Chris Garlick trained three year old filly Better B Amazed drew the outside of the mobile barrier in the C1-C2 fillies and mares pace over 1950 metres but the betting public still made the northern raider a warm favourite.
And they would have been very happy with that selection after the first 150 metres when Better B Amazed and Scott Phelan burned the gate and lead easily.
Allowed to get away with a couple of easier sectionals mid race, Scott turned the wick up from the 800 metres mark when he scooted the 400 metres down the back in 29.3 before letting her really run from the quarter where she dashed home in 27.5 to record an effortless win.
It was the daughter of Bettors Delight sixth win at just her twelfth lifetime start and she has been placed five times as well.
Better B Amazed paced the 1950 metres in 2:26.5, a mile rate of 2:00.8 with closing sectionals of 56.8 and 27.5
Scott was pretty confident prior to the race that Better B Amazed would be hard to beat.
"She has been running against some of the best three year old fillies and has been competitive so dropping back to grade racing was a lot easier tonight."
" You can use her early and she will still find at the business end," Scott said.
Scott can look forward to a few more flights south in the next few weeks to drive the talented filly.
" She is eligible for the Nevele R Fillies Final, the New Zealand Oaks, and the Harness Jewels so she has a big month in front of her," Scott said.
