Trois-Rivieres, QC – With a special agreement from the Quebec Jockey Club (QJC), any harness racing broodmares purchased between June 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020, with proof of the transaction, will be eligible in the Quebec breeding program on certain conditions.
No breeder premiums will be awarded to non-Quebec breeders of these mares. This exceptional measure was created in order to increase and improve the Standardbred breeding industry in Quebec.
The goal is to create and maintain our jobs in the racing industry.
Conditions:
- The transfer of the mare must be done before December 31st 2020 and must be 100% Canadian owned
- The mare must come from outside of Quebec to be eligible
- The foaling must take place in Quebec
- The mare and her offspring must remain in the province of Quebec from January 1st 2021 until and including December 31st 2021
- Any reasons to leave the province of Quebec during her residency must be approved beforehand by the QJC otherwise the mare's residence and therefore the Quebec status of the offspring could be compromised
- A $250 nomination fee must be paid to Standardbred Canada by December 31, 2020 or the regular late registration fee will apply
- The QJC reserves the right to visit farms for inspection purposes
The Quebec Jockey Club is trying to continue building up its breeding program in the province, and this special condition now allows any foals born and raised in Quebec to not only be eligible to the Sire Stakes program that their stallion is eligible to, but also for the Quebec breeding program and its stakes and breeder awards.
