Harness racing fans across Ontario will be treated to second round action of the 3 yr old OSS Grass Root filly trotters on Thursday June 10th in Sarnia, Ontario. The border city 5/8th's mile oval, Hiawatha Horse Park, is host to seven divisions of talented Ontario Bred sophomore fillies.
In total 56 trotters are headed to post lining up on the mobile gate for a chance to pocket the winners share of the $24,000 per division. Most notable on the 12 dash card is Wilsonator, in the 10th race.
Wilsonator, a brown,filly off the mare Sahalee, is a speed ball who took a mark of 1:57.1 as a 2 yr old and is taking a step away from the OSS Gold level trotters, were she has already locked horns in battle this year May 17th at Woodbine, coming away with a nice win in her elimination race, squeezing out the victory by a nose in a decent time of 1:56 flat, last quarter in a sizzling 27.4
In the $130,000. final a week later, at Mohawk racetrack Woodbines sister track, regular driver Sylvan Filion sent Wilsonator immediately to the front chopping out race fractions of :27.1, :57.1, 1:26.3, only to watch the past 2 yr old winner of $249,000. get gobbled up by the rest of the field and falter badly, beaten 11 lengths finishing 7th. No doubt owners Mike Pozefsky and Ed Wilson and trainer Rob Fellows are looking to get back into the winners circle hence the change in venue.
Spirits will be high in the Wilsonator camp after having the good luck of drawing the rail starting position but as we all know to well, it's a horse race and 7 other charges will do their very best to see a win won‘t come easily.
Drawn into the same division, Meadow Sapphire a-Davita Hanover-Meadow Road miss, is 2 for 2 lifetime and sports a make of 2:00.3 taken at Hiawatha June 5th. Also in the same race trainer Kevin O'Reilly sends out Southwind Sydney for owners Chris Ryder, Alycon Stable and Sidney Korn.
This fleet footed daughter ofhas3 winsfrom 5 starts on the season and won her last OSS Grass Roots outing at London's Western Fair raceway trotting the half mile oval in a crisp 2:00.3. If that isn't enough to get Wilsonator up in the rigging, long time trotting specialist Per Henrikson also steps away from the OSS Gold with The Power Of Magic, another daughter of . This filly hasn't put up the numbers in the money column that Wilsonator has but has shown signs of brilliance trotting a mile in 1:56.3 finishing 4th to Wilsonator, May 17th .
From the breeding side of the race program, all Provincial commercial stallions are well represented by their daughters with 40 of the 56 entered being sired by only four different Ontario stallions. Leading the entry list, surprisingly, iswith 15. has 11, , 8 and rounds out the populous entry field with 6. The highest money earner by far is the daughter Wilsonator with lifetime earnings of $269, 800.
