Australia's top mare Deanna Troy headlines the list of horses in the running to snare a sought-after Hunter Cup ballot exemption in this Sunday's Wimmera Mail-Times Horsham Cup. The Graeme Lang-trained star is one of 17 nominations for the $50,000 Group 2 event, which is the feature event of a Horsham Harness Racing Club twilight fixture.

Unbeaten in five starts this preparation, Deanna Troy has only recently returned to Victoria after a successful Tasmanian raid where she picked up a pair of$50,000features.

Before heading south she won the Group 1 Ladyship Mile at Harold Park in November.

But the six-year-old isn't the only big name nominated for 2700-metre discretionary handicap chasing a free pass through to the $400,000 Group 1 Hunter Cup at Moonee Valley on Saturday night, February 7.

Four-time Derby placegetter I Am Sam, classy gelding Ultimate Mark and defending champion Advance Attack are also entered, along with rising star Mickey Mac, last year's Ararat Cup winner Romeo Castle and talented mare Mesmerizing.

The 2009 Ararat Cup champion Count De Lira, trained at Great Western by Matt Clarke, recent Cobram Cup winner Genuine Star and St Arnaud Cup champ Few Good Men are among the others who have already struck a blow on this season's Victorian Country Cup Carnival to be entered.

Bold Cruiser, already a winner of two ballot-exempt races this season - the Kilmore Cup and Tasmanian Cup - will chase his second $50,000 Group 2 race in as many weekends when he looks to back up his Moonee Valley Cup win.

Sunday's other feature, the $8000 Conch Deville Horsham Trotters Cup (2700m), counts former Breeders Crown winner Right Interest, Inter Dominion consolation victor Jazz Legend and Melton Saddlery Maori's Idol Trophy Series leader Mental Power among its 14 nominations.

Acceptances for the meeting close at 8.30am tomorrow with fields available by 11am.
