State Of The Union paced gate to wire to win the $5,000 Open Handicap in the opening race at the Northfield Park harness racing meeting on Monday, April 1, 2013. Ryan Stahl co-owns and piloted the gelding for fellow owner and trainer Nichole Gagnon.

State Of The Union (Presidential Ball-Grand Union-Artsplace) led through fractional times of 28, 57.3, 1:26.3 and 1:55.2. Finishing behind State Of The Union was LD's Super Duty, Beans And Weenies, Doc's Zhivago, Jumpin Jack J and Double Dribble.

Monday's triumph increased State Of The Union lifetime wins tally to 35 and his career earnings to $229,625. He returned $11.80 to win.

Norma's Rose took the $5,000 Open Handicap Trot for owner/trainer Lee Blodgett of Warren, Ohio. Norma's Rose (Master Lavec-Lilyad-Armbro Iliad) started from post five and lead at every call. Chris Page piloted her through fractions of 28.1, 57.2, 1:26.4 and 1:57.3. Completing the race was Lima Apollo, Sure Thing, Fred's Dream, Lotto Winner, Lady Rev, Bit O Looks, What Do You Want and Buck I Time.

Norma's Rose now has 33 career wins and career earning of $261,107. She paid $7.20 to win.
