Trois-Rivieres, Quebec – Rainbow Palace may be the youngest harness horse in the race, but the filly could very well show her heels against her older rivals Sunday at the Hippodrome 3R.
Post time is 1:30 pm at 3R and Rainbow Palace heads the 8th race co-feature pace starting from the rail post position for driver/owner Francis Picard of Warwick, QC. They are listed as the 5/2 morning like favorite despite racing against older rivals.
Sired by Royal Mattjesty, Rainbow Palace was decent last season. As a two-year-old, she started eight time for trainer Dominque Picard. The bay filly won three times with a race record of 1:59 at one mile in her last start in 2014.
Seems that the filly has returned for Picard in super shape and last week in her 2015 debut, she was a game second place finisher, beaten just one length in 1:58.4. This is why she has been made the morning line favorite.
Her main rivals will be G Zattara (post 5) and Matts Phil (post 8) in the nine horse field. G Zattara happens to be the older competitor in the field at age 10 but still is a game performer.
Matts Phil is a return winner, having won his first start of the year last week with an impressive 1:58.3 triumph at longshot odds of 14-1. He may not be the race favorite having to start from the outside in post eight.
The Hippodrome 3R adds Wednesday night live racing beginning next week on May 13 with first race post time at 7:00 pm. For more information go to www.quebecjockeyclub.com.
