Many of the leading breeders and studmasters from New South Wales and Victoria have thrown their weight behind the Bathurst Gold Crown Yearling Sale to be conducted by Graeme Board & Company at the Bathurst Showground on Sunday, March 22.
Yirribee Pacing Stud and Golden Gait Stud, two of NSW’s best known breeding establishments, have entered 27 and 22 lots respectively in the sale.
While Brooklyn Lodge, conducted by very successful breeders Doug and Janet Moore, has the largest draft with 29 lots.
Other high profile NSW breeders with strong representation include Mimosa Banks Stud (nine lots), Dennis Howe (seven), Medowie Lodge (six), Sutton Lodge (six), Rosswood Stud (six), Calderwood Farm (five), Killarney Farms (five), Ashdon Valley Racing (five) and David and Rachel Micallef (five).
A total of 35 lots have been nominated by Victorian breeders.
Those with multiple entries are John Nalder and Jane Hearn (six), Helen Head (five), Graeme and Terry Gourley (five), Regal Farm (five), Kevin Newbound (three), Albert Davis (three) and Brian and Marilyn Gourley (two),
Lombo Standardbreds, owned by leading West Australian identity Mick Lombardo, has a three-strong draft in the sale.
Progeny of most of Australasia’s champion sires will go up for auction, including Art Major, Bettor’s Delight, Mach Three, American Ideal, Somebeachsomewhere, Falcon Seelster, Live Or Die and Rocknroll Hanover.
There’s also stock being offered by the promising sires Sportswriter, Rock N Roll Heaven, Always A Virgin, Shadow Play, Art Official, Artistic Fella, Changeover, Mister Big and Million Dollar Cam.
The first Australian crops of former American pacing standouts in Roll With Joe, Big Jim, If I Can Dream, Gothic Dream and Shadyshark Hanover and the colonial-bred champion For A Reason will add interest to the sale.
The sale has attracted 208 lots and they are eligible for the Breeders’ Crown, NSW Breeders’ Challenge, Bathurst Gold Crown and Vicbred.
Yearlings will also be eligible for the Sales Graduate Pace with $16,000 Finals for two-year-old colts and fillies in February/March 2016, providing payment ($110) is lodged on sale day.
