The New Zealand TAB's harness racing bookmaker believes recent Victoria Derby winner Sushi Sushi is the horse to beat in the Group One Woodlands Stud Northern Derby for Australasia's best 3-year-olds, which will be run at Alexandra Park on Friday week (March 11).
The Freddy Taiba (Victoria) trainedgelding is a pronounced $2.40 favourite for the $400,000 event, which will be run over the 2700m mobile.
Kiwis Terror To Love ($4.50) and Gold Ace ($8) are the only other pacers quoted in single figures.
Sushi Sushi has drawn ideally in Friday's (March 4) first heat and should lead all the way from the ace. He will be driven by Greg Sugars. Terror To Love and Jim Curtin have drawn two.
In the other heat fourth favourite and New South Wales visitor Excel Stride has also copped a nice draw.
The Elizabeth Heath trained and Greg Bennett driven son of Aces N'Sevens will also be a tough to roll from barrier two, especially after winning first up on the track by 5-1/2 lengths - after sitting parked - here seven days ago. Dual group One winner, Gold Ace and Peter Ferguson will start from gate five.
