This weekend's V75 harness racing meeting was at the Aby track and the first leg for mares was one of the most anticipated races of the day. The favourite, Global Midnight (Ganymede), came to the race as undefeated on the back of nine consecutive wins.

Erik Adielsson took Essien (Lindy Lane) to the lead initially, only to hand it over to Love You More (one of four Love Yous in the race) and Kenneth Haugstad after 500m. Åke Svanstedt then advanced with Global Midnight to sit outside the leader. Down the home stretch these two went head-to-head but Global Midnight surrendered towards the wire after a tough trip – nevertheless a brave performance by Svanstedt´s four-year-old mare. Love You More clocked 1.12,4 (1.56.5MR) over 1640m, which is fast for a race in December. 5 Essien claimed third place.

Winning odds: 5.12

The second leg was the Klass 1, another short distance race. Apprentice driver Oscar Nilsson on Otey Coger (Good As Gold) claimed the lead off the start and pocketed the favourite Hobnob (Muscles Yankee) and Bjorn Goop. Celeber Sund (Super Photo Kosmos ) was advanced by Örjan Kihlström to sit outside and out the pressure on the leader. Zagros Boko (Viking Kronos )and Global Manhattan (Love You ) tried to challenge but both broke stride. Otey Coger fought well and held off Celeber Sund to go wire-to-wire in splendid style. Yankee Flair (Rite On Line) was third.

Winning odds: 5.52

Flemming Jensen’s Sweden Cup winner Local Conch (King Conch) lived up to the expectations as the slight favourite in the Gold Division, the third leg at Åby Racetrack. Lutfi Kolgjini grabbed the lead with 2 Sebastian K (Korean) off the start, only to hand it over to Flemming Jensen. 2 Sebastian K. got the chance via open stretch down the straight but could never really challenge the Danish winner. Local Conch has now won five straight races. Clear Sign (Smok’n Lantern) finished well with Erik Adielsson to third place.

Winning odds: 2.20

The fourth leg the Klass II was a one horse-show by Björn Goop’s rising star Lovelock (Viking Kronos) who went wire-to-wire and won easily by several lengths. This is most certainly a promising three-year-old to follow in the future. On top of everything, Lovelock set a new track record at Åby for three-year-old stallions/geldings by clocking the time 1.15,2 (2.01MR)over 2140 meters. Denco’s Queen Kilab (Green Eggs and Pan) and Unesco Brodde (Great Challenger) trailed behind the outstanding winner to second and third.

Winning odds: 1.61.

One re-start was called before the race for mares and apprentice drivers got underway for leg 5. There were several leaders during the race shifting position with each other. Towards the wire, five contenders spread out across the track and from out wide, outsider Ditte Vingboons (Gentle Star) with Riccardo Bianchi, came flying to put her head first, followed by One To One (Vic Torre)and Rosie La Marc (Dream Vacation).

Winning odds: 21.93

There had not been much success for Åke Svanstedt on this day, but that was about to change in leg six, the Bronze Division. Numerous contenders took turns in the lead while Svanstedt chose to remain off the pace with Beretta Avanti (Jam Pridem). Towards the backstretch during the final lap Svanstedt attacked and fired away, leaving the rivals way behind them to win with great lengths down to the rest of the field. Danne Fame (Starchip Entrprise) grabbed second place for Stefan Söderkvist with Ego Sånna (Spotlite Lobell) in third.

Winning odds: 2.97

The favourite Isak C.D. (Tap In) claimed the lead from the pole position in the final leg of the day at Åby, the Silver Division. The Norwegian guest 6 Kejser K.D. (Action Hall) got in front out of the first turn. A high pace was set during the race and towards the final turn in to the home stretch, Isak C.D. challenged the leader and powered on to grab his fourth consecutive win. Kejser K.D. held on for second, followed by Ake Svenstadt’s Sundbys Gidde (Gidde Palema) in third.

Winning odds: 3.72
