DOVER, Del. — Man Of Muscles, piloted by Pat Berry, came out of the pack on the final turn and overtook front-trotting favorite Lou Man (Tim Tetrick) nearing the finish line for a 1:56 triumph in a $12,000 harness racing sub-feature. In the week's top trot, Tim Tetrick had to use Tough Mac hard leaving from the outside before getting the lead at the quarter then led the way to a 1:54.1 victory in the $20,000 Open Handicap trot at Dover Downs, Wednesday Jan. 19. Tetrick completed the day with six wins.
Trainer Dylan Davis picked up his second win on the card when Mike Casalino's Tough Mac returned to winning form in his second start of 2016. Tough Mac is an altered son of Lockkeeper-Traditional Lady who won for the 22nd time baking $272,449 lifetime. War Cry Hall (Ross Wolfenden) challenged strongly on the backstretch and held on for second. Panamanian Hanover (Tony Morgan) got up for third.
In the $15,000 4&5-Year-Old sub-feature trot, Machuca, with Allan Davis driving the Yankee Glide-Tail Of Night gelding, shot down the passing lane to score a 1:56.3 win for owner-trainer Bob Shahan. Royal Becca J (Jack Parker) left from the outside to get the early lead and held on to finish second. Adrenalin Junkie (Jim Morand) rallied from far back for third.
In one of two $12,000 trots, Rosemary Smutz owns and trains the 51-1 longshot, Man Of Muscle, a Muscle Mass-Jim's Girl gelding, who ironically finished second in his previous start. Five Towns (Jonathan Roberts) closed along the passing lane for second while Lou Man, after leading from the start, had to accept a third-place finish.
In another $12,000 trot, Winemaster Hanover, an altered son of Donato Hanover-Wishful Me, with Tony Morgan at the controls, blew past Spunky Jack (Roger Plante) in deep stretch to post a 1:54.3 conquest for Jay Spector, Dan Kiwak and Triple D Stables and trainer Scott DiDomenico. Enrico AS (Allan Davis) was the show horse.
DEDI’S DRAGON LEADS EIGHT IN THURSDAY DOVER FEATURE
Dedi’s Dragon, heads an eight-horse field in the Thursday, Jan. 21 feature race at Dover Downs. First post is 4:30 p.m.
Victor Kirby will drive Dedi’s Dragon for trainer Jim King and owners J.E. McGill, B.K. Carsey and JL Benson Stables in the wide-open affair. Engel and Nick Surick stables’ Pierce and Marcus Miller get a good post position alongside Ringler Stable’s Simon’s Artist, who starts from the rail with Jim Morand in the bike. Driver George Dennis who owns Allstar Preview with his wife, Tina, has been second in his last two outings.
Max Walton’s Letsmakeawish and Sean Bier has upset credentials. Owner-trainer Ron Dixon’s Ken Kam, owner-trainer-driver John MacKinnon’s Celtic Thunder and from outside post 8, trainer Richard Robertson’s Rocnrolwilneverdie (Brett Miller) complete the lineup.
Onery Shark is the lone horse on the 15-race card carrying a two-race win streak. Donny Long owns and drives the seven-year-old from post 8 in a Filly and Mare pace in race 11.
