DOVER, Del. — Eoic Smash, Chestnut Chic and Miss Baltimore triumph in Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund 1st leg freshman Filly Trot 1st leg prelims while Howard Taylor's Major Uptrend made the winner's circle for the 10th time this season recording a 1:49.3 victory in the $18,500 3,4&5-Year-Old Open/Handicap pace during an intermittent rain shower on Monday, Nov. 9 at Dover Downs. Tim Tetrick won five races (nine in the last two programs).Tony Morgan added two wins to third all-time leading total, now 15,225.
The fastest DSBF prelim belongs to Epic Smash. an easy winner in 201.2 with Pat Berry driving the Political Briefing-Giant Smash filly for Craparotta and Berry Racing. It was the second win of the year for the $73,208 winner. Press Corp (Art Stafford Jr.) and Henny Penny (Carlo Poliseno) were second and third respectively.
With program favorite Cicada's Song scratched, Chestnut Chic won her maiden victory in the first $20,000 DSBF prelim. A chestnut daughter of Impel Hanover-Comical Dream scored a 2:03.1 victory. Princess Politics (Way ne Long) was next in from of Harper's Ego (Jason Thompson).
Miss Baltimore (Tony Morgan) was strongest in the stretch to notch a 2:05.1 win in the second DSBF trot. The win was also the first of her career for the Master Lavec-Country Inn freshman trained by Kyle Moore for owner Don Marine. Triple Bottom Line (Jeff Fout) came home second.
The 2nd and last DSBF prelims for filly trotters is set for next Monday. The top eight point-getters return for a $100,000 final on Nov. 23.
With track defending champion Corey Callahan in the bike, the four-year-old altered son of Somebeachsomewhere-Tricky Tooshie turned back eight rivals to win the Monday feature race. After a tough front-pacing loss at the wire last week, there was no stopping Major Uptrend, who used a :27.2 final panel to insure victory. Four Staces (Vic Kirby) finished second with Little Ben (Tim Tetrick) third.
Tetrick, who had five winners on the Matron program last Thursday, did one better with five Monday, steering four straight wins in the 10th through 13th including Richard Poillucci's Dapper Dude to a 1:50 success in a $12,000 Male pace after piloting Don't Ya Know home in 1:51.3 for trainer Jason Skinner and owners Joan Dalphon and Elanor Laws in the $14,500 Male Winners-Over sub-feature. .
Following Tetrick's five wins, Tony Morgan drove three. Trainer Dylan Davis and owners Howard Taylor and Tom Lazzaro had doubles.
$20,000 DSBF 1ST LEG TROT PRELIMS, DISTAFF FEATURE TUESDAY
Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) 1st leg prelims the Tuesday, Nov. 10 card at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
Syl King-leased Chipoffthewall, seeks to make amends for his performance in the $100,000 DSBF Final at Harrington last month where he was taken down for interference after what was an open-lengths 1;59.4 victory. Tony Morgan will be behind the freshman black gelding. In the first race of the day. Chris Yochim's Mondello, place first in the final, is in the hands of Art Stafford Jr. Virginia state champion Elton J, owned by Jane Dunavant, starts from the rail.
In the second DSBF division, Boston Malibu, owned by trainer Bob Shahan and Don Marine won the $20,000 DSBF Harrington consolation with Allan Davis in the bike to give him a win, a second and a third in four starts this season. Seafood Scrappy has post 1 with Brett Miller driving for Seafood Delight and J&M Stable. Deborah Warnick's Popcorn Machine with Jim Morand is another contender. The other starters are Bill Hall and trainer Brian Wright's Chrome Master, piloted by Eddie Jeff Demiere's That's My Command, handled by Tony Morgan) and Dave Nelson's Overnight Shipper, with George Dennis driving.
The rest of the program spotlights filly and mare paces. In the first $14,000 distaff Winners-Over feature, Chris White's Fashion Showdown (Tony Morgan), fresh from a win last week catching Howard Taylor's sharp Shine N Shimmer ( Corey Callahan) by a nose. Classy Paradise Lost (Vic Kirby), a winner of two straight and three of four, drew the rail while CC Racing's Tyra (Tim Tetrick), a winner of two of her last three races, leaves from post 8. Matinee Dragon (Art Stafford Jr.), is also a winner of two of her last three, and gets a better post this week. Jeff and Dave Clark's Angel Or Terror (George Dennis), Legacy Racing's Angel Or Terror (Allan Davis) and BJ's Sweetheart (Morgan) complete the solid lineup.
Spedden, Evans, Parker and Nanticoke Racing's import Ellies Jet N (A.Stafford Jr.), a winner of his two starts since arriving from New Zealand, has the rail and is program favorite in the other !4,000 3,4&5-Year-Old Filly and Mare pace. Playncardswitroddy, owned by trainer-driver George and Tina Dennis and ASK W Stable, Terra Terror (Morgan) racing for trainer Brian Malone and Teresa Wilson, Chris White's Fashion Villager (Corey Callahan) and Bob Shahan's Hardscrabble Tilly (A.Davis), will be there to test the newcomer.
The Wednesday program features the week's top trotters in the feature race. Four rich Matron Stakes for three-year-old trotters and pacers and a DSBF colt pace 2nd leg, are in the Thursday spotlight.
There is now a $5,000 Pick-4 each racing day.
