A pair of $100,000 second season state-bred stake championships and the opening leg of the Maywood Pacing Series have lured many of the top Illinois star pacers to compete on Friday night’s Maywood Park 13-race program.

Back from the east coast $148,920 richer after his first five season starts is last year’s ICF Freshman Pacer of the Year Home Bed Advantage, the overwhelming 3-5 morning line favourite in the $100,000 Maywood Colt Pace Final.

The red-hot Sportsfancy is the 3-2 favourite to extend her current a four-race winning streak in the $100,000 Maywood Filly Pace showdown, while the $40,000 Cook County lured a solid field of state-bred older pacers, including nationally ranked Thisbigdogwilfight and his entrymate Maywood track record holder Third Day, who will open as the heavy 4-5 favourites.

Home Bed Advantage earned a bye into the three-year-old colt showdown based on his highest season earnings among the nine Maywood Pace entrants.

The quick son of Cole Muffler finished a game third in last weekend’s $1 million Rooney Final at Yonkers, picking up $120,000 for trainer Dave McCaffrey, who shares ownership of the half-mile track specialist with MJGB Racing of Nanuet, NY.

This will be Home Bed Advantage’s first start at Maywood Park since he won last October’s Cardinal freshman stake when he equaled the world record on a half-mile track with his 1:52.4 mile. Earlier last summer he became the fastest two-year-old pacing gelding in the sport’s history with a 1:50.1 mile at Balmoral Park.

Taking on Home Bed Advantage, who has the advantageous one-post with the circuit’s leader driver Ryan Anderson in race seven, is last weekend’s elimination winner Brother Vinny (6-1), who wasn’t at 100 per cent in his 1:55.2 win on a sloppy surface.

"Brother Vinny was real sick in the Cardinal Final when we raced him hard but we didn't know it," said his winning driver Mike Oosting.

"The horse came out of that race real fatigued, so he got a lot of time off. He raced pretty good tonight (June 1) but he still got a little leg weary. Hopefully he'll be stronger for the final."

Recent Cardinal Pace champion Booze Cruzin (9-2), Cole Combustion (20-1), Sneaky B Skipalong (25-1), One Park Place (8-1), Mahdi (10-1) and Richess King (50-1) are the remaining Maywood Pace participants.
