Capable Winton owned and trained mare Tact Lizzie furthered her preparation for her 5 Year Old debut at Ascot Park in Invercargill on Friday week (2 October) when she won the main harness racing heat at the trials held there today (Wednesday, September 23) 2009.

The winner of eight races, four at three and also successful the same number of times last season at four, she may have taken longer to come up this season, Brent Barclay who drove her today, said.

For the want of a better saying, Barclay has found himself somewhat embarrassed by riches in the driving department involving Tact Lizzie and arch rivals Natal Franco and Badlands Jewel with whom he has also been associated.

Barclay said he would stick with Wayne Adams' talented mare Badlands Jewel at Ascot Park (2 October) for the Northern Southland club's fixture there.

Badlands Jewel, who has come to hand quickly and impressively, will run at Ascot Park workouts on Saturday as another pipe opener for that race.

Tact Lizzie's trainer Trevor Proctor will probably delay naming a driver for his mare until he learns of Barclay and Clark Barron's final plans.

Barron is likely to handle Natal Franco in the Northern Southland feature at this early stage only.

Barclay has also been a frequent driver of Natal Franco who might have only two starts in Southland before moving north to Jeff Whittaker in Christchurch for the Cup carnival.

Barclay said Tact Lizzie blew after her trials showing today from 20 metres, winning by a neck from the Northern Southland trained Jimbob Jac (30 metres),with three and a quarter lengths to Natal Franco (20) third.

"I carried a stopwatch with me and made Tact Lizzie run 57 and a fraction post to post for her last 800. I got her at 3:12 post to post for the last 2400 metres of the 2700metres,'' Barclay said.

Tact Lizzie last raced at Forbury Park in Dunedin on 11 June when eighth. She was last successful at Addington on 27 January in Anthony Butt's hands.

Barclay today drove Tact Lizzie's 3 Year Old half brother Change of Tact (by Falcon Seelster) who is also trained by Proctor to qualify when winning over 2200 metres (stand) in 2:53.1.
