Resurgent Spirit (James Austin) resumes with an effortless win in the Benediction Stakes
Star Tasmanian two-year-old from last season Resurgent Spirit kept his unbeaten record intact when he returned to racing in Hobart on Sunday night with an effortless win in the Benediction Stakes for three-year-olds.

The Roger Whitmore-trained gelding won all of his nine starts last season that included effortless victorious in the Big Park Stud Sweepstakes and the Dandy Patch series final.

His first venture as a three-year-old was like a stroll in the park for the gelded son of American Ideal-Resurgent Star.

With regular driver James Austin in the sulky Resurgent Spirit faced the breeze before rolling to the front and once there it was a procession.

Resurgent Spirit forged clear of his rivals in the home straight and went on to score by five metres from Stonor Rainbow that trailed the winner with Ramplestiltskin two metres astern.

Driver Austin was delighted with the win.

"He did it with ease again and only did what he had to do to win but who knows how far this horse can go," Austin said.
