Former smart two-year-old pacer Lickyalips returned to racing last month after a disappointing three-year-old season but his form this time in has been superb.
Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tonight the four-year-old made it three wins in succession when he led virtually all the way to win a C2 over 2090 metres.
All About Mod began brilliantly from gate three to lead but that horse’s driver Tim Yole was keen to hand up when Ricky Duggan sent the odds-on favourite Lickyalips around the field to take up the running.
Once in front the gelding set a solid tempo and went on to win comfortably.
Lickyalips hit the line over five metres clear of All About Mod with Just Dance Baby a closing third 4-1/4 metres away and just in advance of The Innkeeper.
Lickyalips is trained at Brighton by Rodney Ashwood and is owned in partnership by Jamie Cockshutt, Barry Cooper, Linda Duggan and Adam Aherne who only recently bought into the horse.
“I am ecstatic at how Rod (Ashwood) has been able to nurture this horse back into winning form,” Cockshutt said.
“He was terrific as a two-year-old but he had issues as a three-year-old what with growing and other niggling issues but it looks like that’s all behind him,” Cockshutt said.
Lickyalips has won eight of his 18 starts as well as four minor placings form stakes of almost $50,000.
Cockshutt said there are no special plans for Lickyalips.
“We will just keep looking for suitable races and hope that he can keep on winning.”
“The races get that much harder as he moves through the grades but as long as he is competitive we will be happy,” he said.
