LIGHTLY raced three-year-old pacer Metro Digby will progress to the Tasmanian Derby following his narrow but impressive win in the $10,000 Tastech Building Services Sires Produce Stakes final over 2090 metres at Tattersall's Park in Hobart last Sunday night.
Metro Digby (-Jolopez) was sent out an odds-on favourite ($1.50) to win the feature and while he held out runner-up Rusty red Comet with ease in the end the gelding gave his backers some cause for concern over the final 200 metres.
"He just switched off about 200 metres out and I really had to get into him to get him back concentrating," said trainer-driver.
"He is a very good horse but he still has a few too tricks," he said.
Metro Digby went into the race with a reasonably good record of two wins and three minor placings from seven starts but Williams admitted this latest effort was his best result despite the gelding doing a few things wrong.
