But once the horse fell into line with his training methods the gelding has gone from strength to strength.
In Hobart last Sunday night Boltnmach notched his third win for Campbell since arriving from thestable.
"We got this horse fromand he was in good shape when he arrived but he settled in too well and I had to work him hard to get him going."
"But he has really come along and now he's the bred and butter horse of the stable," he said.
Boltnmach is owned and raced by Campbell's life partner Maree Fasoli who has had a long time interest in harness racing.
The five-year-old bay stallion has had 33 starts for three wins (all for Campbell) and eight minor placings for $16.700 in stakes.
It was Campbell's first win in the sulky this season.
Boltnmach was the first leg of a training-driving double for Campbell who also saluted aboard Damitsam in the Red She Restoration Barn Pace for C1 pacers over 1609 metres.
It was Damitsam's first win from five outings this season and he only just scraped into the race as an emergency courtesy of the scratching of I've Got Oomph.
