A 25metre handicap, despite rising star Arden Rooney being of the front, wasn’t enough to stop champion pacer Terror To Love from going back-to-back in the $50,000 Northern Southland Cup.

Terror To Love, who was having his first start since failing in the Miracle Mile at Menangle, began swiftly from his back mark, settling in fifth, before moving forward to the parked position at the 1400m.He then challenged the pace making Arden Rooney on the home bend, before powering away to win untouched by ¾ of a length.

The six-year-old son of Western Terror, who by winning became the first to win two Northern Southland Cups in the race’s 23-year history, is now closing in on 2 million dollars in stakes earnings, after yesterday’s prize money increased his stakes to $1,970,935.

Terror To Love returned home to Court’s Christchurch stable today, but will venture south again for the $40,000 Invercargill Cup next Saturday, where he is likely to meet the likes of Elios, Arden Rooney, and Saveapatrol.

He will then focus in on the Interdomion heat at Addington on February 15, although the $400,000 Hunter Cup in Melbourne on February 1 is still a possibility.

Meanwhile, Royal Aspirations was a narrow winner of the $20,000 feature trot over Sheemon and Springbank Sam, who dead-headed for second.
