H. Mitchell Schuman of Brightwaters, NY, captured the October 7th National Handicapping Championship Qualifier at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment. The $400 no-takeout contest attracted a field of 121 players representing several different states. All entry fees were added to the prize pool of $24,200
The Meadowlands NHC Qualifier required each contestant to make at least ten $20 minimum Win, Place, Show or any combination WPS bets on their choice of races from Keeneland, Belmont and Gulfstream West. The total prize pool reached $24,200.
Schuman built his $200 bankroll into $3,024.40 earning him the $9,680 top cash prize and seat in the 2018 NHC Final in Las Vegas. His largest score of the day netted $3,024 when he bet entire $756 bankroll to win on #6 Little Baby Bella in Gulfstream West's 10th and final race.
Also earning berths into the National Handicapping Championship Final were Bill Rendino of Bronx, NY and John Conte of Oceanside, NY. Conte won the NHC in 2009.
