Harness Racing Victoria was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Keith McGowan, 70 overnight. Keith tragically suffered a severe stroke last Friday and passed away on Sunday evening December 22nd with family by his side.
Keith was a proud harness racing enthusiast and a great friend of the industry. He bred and owned many horses, some of who performed impressively at the track including Mount Massiedon, Wayan Guntur, Comedy Of Eros, Dick Swiveller and in more recent times pacer turned trotter Simon Tappertit.
He was a veteran in radio broadcasting, with a career spanning over 50 years across 17 radio stations. For the past 21 years, prior to his retirement in July 2011, Keith hosted the popular 'Overnighters' program on 3AW.
His son Nathan, shares his passion for Harness Racing, working at Harness Racing Victoria in the role of Racing Manager. Keith was also the proud father of daughter Tania and grandfather of four. "Keith was a staunch supporter of the industry and fiercely defended it to anyone who wanted to talk the sport down. He will be a very sad loss", HRV CEO John Anderson said.
Condolences of the entire harness racing industry are extended to Keith McGowan's wife Angela, family and friends.
