Dover, DE - Tight Lines took the overland route and won the Open Trot at Dover Downs on Tuesday night.

Home’N Dry and race favorite Joey Bats provided the early speed over a sloppy track. Jack Vernon made a break after the start.  Blue Bird Jesse got away 3rd. Tight Lines was able to drop in 4th near the quarter pole. Bluebird Rambo settled in the fifth position.

Home’N Dry cut the race fractions of 27.2, 56  and 1:24. Joey Bats accepted the pocket trip.

Tight Lines rushed 1st over and the mare, She’s On A Cuze was towed into a 2nd over trip on the rim down the backstretch.

Tight Lines and Corey Callahan were able to wear down the pace setter Home’N Dry and Tyler Davis past the ¾ pole.  They trotted a 28 flat 3rd quarter.

Joey Bats, the race favorite with Andrew McCarthy, in the bike, angled off the rail and took dead aim on Tight Lines in the stretch.

Unfortunately, Joey Bats went off stride near the 7/8th marker.

Sheez On A Cruz passed Joey Bats nearing the wire and finished 2nd.

Joey Bats survived a Judges Inquiry for a violation of the breaking rule and finished 3rd.

Tight Lines won by two and a quarter lengths at odds of 7/2 in 1:52.2.

He is owned and trained by Jeff Gregory with the Jesmeral Stables and W.H. Richardson.

The mare, Sheez On A Cruze finished 2nd for driver Montrell Teague and trainer Brenda Teague.

Major Occasion N looks to repeat in the Mares Open Pace in Wednesday’s 11th race Mares Open Pace. First race post time at Dover Downs is 4:30 pm.
